ANNOUNCEMENT

First Annual Scientific Research Conference
for
Hoa Sen University Students

Academic Year 2009-2010

To encourage and promote the scientific research activities of Hoa Sen University (HSU) students, the University Research Office, in collaboration with the HSU faculty, departments and school Union will be holding its first annual conference for students scheduled for June 28, 2010 at the HSU campus in HCM City.
 

I. Purpose:

 The primary objective of the conference and workshop is to build a research culture at HSU in order to create an opportunity for students to learn and practice research, presentation and debating skills.
  Through this organizing conference, the University expects to create conditions that will support all capable students participating in scientific research activities. It will consequently promote their competence, and help them discover and affirm themselves as well as enhance their required skills necessary for their future professional development.  

 

II.Content:

  1. Introduction to HSU’s policies to encourage doing research at the University
  2. General report on the current situation of student research activities
  3. Students’ presentations of their research reports/projects
  4. Discussion
  5. Awards for the reports that meet the requirements: 5 prizes for English reports and 5 prizes for Vietnamese reports.

III.Detailed Information:

1.  Date:  June 28, 2010
2.  Venue: Hoa Sen University, HCM City
3.  Conference Scale and Target Participants

  • The number of delegates expected will be about 130 persons: student candidates with presentations (about 20), organizers (about 5), the scientific committee (5), instructors (about 20), guests (about 5), other concerned teachers and students (about 75).
  • Target participants are required to submit a report paper, i.e., all 3-year and 4-year program students /student groups (no more than 3) in all majors and departments at HSU.

4.  Requirements for papers:

  • The paper must be presented on paper size A4, using font Times New Roman, size 13, and be a uniform complete article not exceeding 20 typewritten pages. The paper should include: the full names of students and instructors, faculty / departments, the author’s local address, telephone number, and email address.
  • The paper may be written in Vietnamese or English; however, students are encouraged to provide both versions. A summary (abstract), not exceeding 200 words MUST be written in both languages.

 

5.  Awards: There will be 10 awards for excellent reports

  • 2 first prizes: 2,000,000 VND
  • 2 second prizes: 1,000,000 VND
  • 2 third prizes: 500,000 VND
  • 4 encouragement prizes: 250,000 VND

6.  Deadlines:

  • From March 5 to April 12, 2010: All schools will widely announce the conference information to students and department staff, and offer suggested topics or projects for students. Students may choose from suggested topics or projects, or have their own projects which will then be registered with their faculty. The school will assign instructors for each project.
  • From March 5 to April 12, 2010: Receive application form and/or proposal form (name and general information of the subject according to templates attached)  
  • From April 12-20, 2010: The Research Office will hold a seminar to guide students on writing and presenting scientific reports

- June 7, 2010: Completed reports must be received

  • June 14, 2010: A scientific committee will be established to review proposals and reports (each school will propose a representative as a member of the committee)
  • June 21, 2010: Announcement of accepted reports to be presented at the conference
  • June 28, 2010: Conference date
